Using your website for social media posts

How much written content do you have on your website? How often do you use it?

A website is such a great place for ‘quick win’ content for inspiration and also for cutting and pasting words that can be used ‘as it’ or repurposed in a range of social media captions.

Let me show you all of the different ways you can do this….

Using the content from your different website pages for social media captions

Home page

A home page is a fantastic summary of what a business is. There is often a short summary of services, as well as a snappy bio. You also choose your key ‘call to action’ on your home page. All of thing are great written content for social media posts.

You are also likely to have a testimonial on your home page…or perhaps a whole slider of them. When was the last time you share these on your social media platforms.

A lot of us also have a mailing sign up on our home page – perhaps even a pop up to promote it. Could you do a post to encourage people to subscribe to your mailing list?

About page

An about page often include a strong introduction to your business and also to you. If it is quite long you can edit it down or share just one paragraph as the basis of a ‘re-introduction’ post.

I also have some stats on my website about page. I know many people may also have clients they have worked with (this may also be on the home page or service pages too) – when was the last time you shouted about your clients or partners? Mention them in a post. It’s a great tagging opportunity to increase reach.

It is also quite typical to share your mission, vision and values on your about page. There is no reason you can’t share this information in a social media post or a selection of social media posts, as is.

You can also use your values as inspiration for social media content. What sorts of pictures, videos, explanations and stories can you offer that really demonstrate your values?

Services or product pages

Your service and product pages content are always going to be a great starting point for a sales post. This content explains what you offer and what you do. It’s great for a ‘How to work with me’ type post too.

You can take each service or group of products in turn. You can include relevant testimonials about a specific service or product group too.

You can also develop the content on these pages by ‘adding value’. Explain what you do, but then add an educational element, with perhaps an accompanying tip or a ‘how to’ .

Blog or FAQs pages

If you have a blog then you should never run out of social media captions!!! There will be so much written content that you can reuse, repurpose or rework. Any ‘5 top tips for…’ or ‘5 ways to…’ type blogs can immediately be broken up into 5 (or whatever number!) different captions.

There are actually lots of ways to reuse what I call ‘cornerstone content’ – big items of content like blog posts, videos and podcasts. Take a look here to learn more:

Simply reminding your followers about your blog, as well as individual published posts, is also great social media content.

If you have any FAQs – either as a separate page or as part of your service pages, perhaps – then this is also great content that can be shared individually as social media posts.

Remember to invite your social media followers to explore your blog and your FAQs to increase website traffic too.

Contact

There might not be heaps of written content on your contact page, but the page itself is such a great reminder of the need to know elements that any potential new client needs. It will state an array of key information, most likely a combination of the following:

  • ways to contact you
  • how best to contact you
  • how to book a discovery call
  • what social media platforms you are on
  • opening times / working hours
  • location(s)

All of these are great things to share on social media regularly. Invite people to actually contact you – get them to get in touch.
